A New Foldable Phone Is Coming From Xiaomi

The foldable phone market is expected to get crowded in the coming years as big players like Apple join the foldable caravan. Alongside Apple, Chinese technology giants OPPO, Xiaomi will try their hand at making their first foldable smartphones. Both companies have filed multiple patents, giving an idea of what the new finished product might look like.
Recently, Xiaomi has applied for another patent for its foldable smartphone. And while the phone maker hasn’t tried anything revolutionary unlike its previous patented foldable phone, the latest one includes a pop-up selfie camera. The patent design filed for The Hague International Design System in September this year and was published on November 20.
The patented foldable smartphone has a small flip screen like the first-generation Galaxy Fold. As mentioned earlier, Xiaomi’s patent includes a pop-up selfie camera, not a notch design or hole. On the back of the device, we see three cameras placed in the upper left corner, but we do not have details about the camera configuration of the patented device. Other features include USB-C, microphone on both the top and bottom, volume control knob and on/off switch.
We don’t know if Xiaomi will adopt this design for its upcoming foldable smartphone, but if it does, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 will have an edge over Xiaomi when it comes to innovation, this is because unlike the latter of the older model, that it will include an under-display selfie camera. It is impossible to say that this will be the exact state of the device because it is still in the patent stage.
